Email Sent on Monday 1/4, 1pm to all Winter Sports Families,
Good Afternoon, GHS Winter Sports Families,
I hope this email finds you well.
With the winter season approaching competitions in the coming weeks, here are a few topics to be aware of.
Games/Meets Schedules Posted Online
GHS Winter Sports schedules have been posted publicly (accessing information is highlighted yellow at the base of this email). This includes: Basketball, Gymnastics, Ice Hockey, & Swim/Dive.
Please note that the schedule is very fluid, and likely to have many updates throughout this season depending on the status of each of the various NEC member schools, including GHS. Any updates to games/meets are immediately updated on the website & phone app.
Game Uniform Distribution/User Fees Due Immediately
The majority of team's game uniforms will be distributed this week. Student-Athletes user fees must be submitted to receive their uniform. Please have them bring the user fee check/cash to their next practice and provide to the coach.
Note: in the coming weeks the Athletic Department will be emailing families that may have past season's athletic obligations (past user fees, uniforms or equipment owed).
School Attendance Policy - Consequences on Sports Participation
All student-athletes are required to be in full attendance of in-person hybrid and remote classes to be able to participate in athletics. Please note the following during the current academic schedules at GHS.
- Absent from in-person hybrid class or remote class, student-athletes cannot participate or attend athletics that day (or entire weekend if absent on a Friday)
- Morning Cohort tardiness, any student-athlete that arrives after 7:45am is ineligible to participate in athletics that day (or entire weekend if absent on a Friday). They are still to attend athletics, but cannot participate.
- Afternoon Cohort tardiness, any student-athlete that arrives after 11:30am is ineligible to participate in athletics that day (or entire weekend if absent on a Friday). They are still to attend athletics, but cannot participate.
COVID Guidelines
In the coming days families will receive sport specific information in regard to COVID guidelines (spectator rules/guidelines, transportation, etc.), please be on the lookout for those communications.
Indoor sports present many challenges that we did not have to navigate during the recent Fall season. Our staff continues to stay vigilant with the student-athletes in regard to the precautionary COVID social distancing guidelines (wearing masks, staying more than 6ft apart when possible, utilizing sanitizer, etc.) We do ask that you continue to stress the importance of following those guidelines with your student-athletes.
After conferring with the local Department of Public Health (DPH) & Gloucester Public Schools Administration (as well as adhering to all CDC/EEA/MIAA guidelines), if there is a positive COVID case on one of our teams, or on the opposing team, there is a high likelihood that all students on that team will be considered a close contact and be required to quarantine outside of school for a specific length of time by our local DPH. This guidance is subject to change in the coming weeks and we will update it based on our work with Gloucester's DPH.
